My Resume

MARKETING JUGGLER, MEDIA GEEK, & COPYWRITER WANNABE

When I graduated college, my goal was to put my change-the-world dreams to work by starting at a nonprofit (check!) before I'd without a doubt become a latte sipping, late night working, hipster dressing copywriter at an architecturally cool ad agency, because ya know, the amazing digs would dictate that I'd have a great life. And I'm still admittedly jealous of ad agency creatives. Maybe one day, that dream will come true.

Along the journey, though, new opportunities arose. Better opportunities.

I became a digital marketer. With copywriting skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE
2011-2014
East Coast Chair & Barstool | Web Marketing Manager

'Web Marketing 101' was a brand new course when I was in college, so it has been amazing to ride the wave from FrontPage "informational" websites to arrive in an e-commerce and m-commerce driven society. In 2011, I was hired as a web coordinator to help manage the three existing sites and also an eBay store, along with helping with some marketing tasks that weren't really defined at that time.  Jumping in with both feet, I put together a marketing and social media plan and started learning everything I could about digital marketing and SEO.  When the position's duties got to be too much, the owners gave me the gift of a part-time eBay coordinator to help manage the content and listings in that marketplace, so I could keep up with the 6,000-product catalog on the dot coms.  In 2014, I spearheaded the launch of a new brand and e-commerce store, AdirondackChairs4Less.com.  I also was promoted to web marketing manager, once again getting help from new staff: a web coordinator and a graphic designer.  Going from basically a one-woman juggling act to now being a team leader in a growing, creative, collaborative department was a huge milestone for my career.

My team's responsibilities included:

  • inbound marketing

  • content marketing and managing an editorial calendar

  • web copy, including landing page copy and maintaining 6,000+ product listings

  • tradeshow marketing, lead generation, and lead follow-up

  • email marketing utilizing Cactus Connect and MailChimp software

  • SEO

  • PPC

  • public relations

  • video marketing

  • social marketing

  • tradeshow marketing

  • blogging

  • blogger outreach

2009-2013
Erie Homes for Children & Adults | Communications Specialist

Event planning, media relations, newsletter production, website copy and maintenance, volunteer management, direct mail fundraising campaigns, and social media activities were just a few of the things that filled my days at EHCA.  Four really memorable projects stick out to me from my time spent contributing to the agency's mission.

  1. First, I spearheaded the compilation of a branding and style guidelines book, which was a big undertaking that required coordinating feedback from the executive management team, the board of directors, and a branding committee. I completed all of the layout and copy, and I devised the entire roll-out plan to the staff of 400+.

  2. When the nonprofit was looking for new fundraising opportunities, I helped to create and launch a fresh new annual special event called Kegs & Corks.  This beer and wine tasting event introduced our agency to a new audience and was successful in raising nearly $10,000 profit the first year.

  3. Another really special project I spearheaded was the creation of a new agency video.  I negotiated a very fair nonprofit rate and collaborated with a professional video production team.  My goal was to create a more emotional, storytelling video that was different than the information-packed, brochure-like video the agency had previously used.  Once again, I had to consider feedback from the executive management team and board of directors as I wrote the script and set up the visual shots.

  4. Finally, one of the last committees I headed up was the 100th Anniversary Committee, a combination of current and past staff, volunteers, and board of directors.  Honoring the agency's rich history through a year filled with captivating events, a keepsake book, and a cherished quilt handsewn by one of our volunteers was such a rewarding experience.  The anniversary year, which took two years to plan, gave me the opportunity to research the agency's century-long history and also meet so many wonderful people who had been touched by our services through the years.

2005-2008
March of Dimes | Communications Coordinator

Ask any millennial - charity and giving back are important. Growing up, I was very involved in fundraising for the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the National MS Society.  So when I graduated college, I knew I wanted to start my career at a nonprofit.

I just had no idea how much it would affect me and the rest of the my life.

Through event planning, selling sponsorships, media relations, newsletter production, and volunteer management, I gained so much great experience and learned a lot about marketing and communications.  But it was the people I met who really impacted who I am today.  From my generous and hardworking supervisor and coworkers, to the amazing volunteers, to the remarkable families who had experienced premature birth, birth defects, and even infant loss - I have been eternally changed, for the better.

EDUCATION
2003-2005
Slippery Rock University | B.S.B.A, Marketing

Studying and learning new things comes naturally to me. I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelor degree, but I have never stopped learning. Since college, I have embraced many professional development opportunities, including a certificate in search marketing and another in Google Analytics.

2001-2003
Butler County Community College | A.A.S., Marketing Management

I will tell anyone who listens that I loved my education at BC3. Because it was a community college, the instructors often were simultaneously working in the fields in which they taught. Bringing in their real life experiences to the classroom created a very applicable, practical learning environment for the students.
